Even Shafique N Virani in his book “The Ismailis in the Middle Ages” pages 184/185 states:

Professor Ivanow said his friends were surprised that even after “most brutal pesecution, wholesale slaughter, age-long hostility and suppression were unable to annihilate the [Ismaili] community.”

Then he continues:

“They with amazing care and devotion kept through ages BURNING THAT LIGHT, mentioned in the Koran, which God always protects against all attempts of His enemies to extinguish it.”

I stop here because you have to read the book.
