Re: Reference to Alamut in this Ginan. As per research done by Dr. Shafique Virani in his work “The Ismailis in the Middle Ages” (Oxford) you may note that Alamut was occupied twice more after its initial fall to the Mongols. Per historical research done by Shafique, Imam had re-occupied Alamut during the time of Pir Sadr al-Din, and the reference here may be factual instead of spiritual.

I entirely endorse Abbas Valiani’s comment that in this day and age with a lot of young people having been brought up in English as the only language, here in UK, the use of gist of the Ginans must be made more frequent. I know the Jamati Officers have a lot to get through but the recital of the whole Ginan makes little impact on someone who has to sit through with no cultural, linguistic or historical background to our ‘Wonderful Tradition’ – I quote Imam’s words, and attendance to JK suffers on account of this. The author’s notes on Ginans, quoting other scholars, is a gift to us all if we are genuinely interested in what they too, have to say.

A Wonderful explanation of Ginan. Would be very useful for the jamati understanding if the translation is recited before the Ginan. Keeping in mind the time restraint, even a gist of the Ginan will give flavour of the occasion and would help in preparation for the reunion with our Beloved.

I would like to hear from you as well as your readers about the possibility of doing a visual expression (either by stage production or painting pictures) of this Ginan – would either or both enhance our further appreciation for the Ginan?
