With a particular focus on the cultural, intellectual and textual expressions of the Ismailis and related Muslim traditions. Weekly quote: “...This is a time of new freedoms, but it is also one in which new choices must be made wisely. In exercising freedom and making choices, our institutions must be guided by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace of Allah be upon him), and the tradition of our tariqah, which is the tradition of Hazrat Ali: A thinking Islam and a spiritual Islam – an Islam that teaches compassion, tolerance and the dignity of man – Allah’s noblest creation.” Excerpts from His Highness the Aga Khan's message dated May 14, 1992, to mark the Aga Khan Foundation's 25th anniversary.

We appreciate the efforts of Simerg in making it possible for all Ismailis to relish the rare pictures of Sir Sultan Mohmed Shah taken at a time when we were not even born, to witness any of these events. Yet, now we understand the significance. This is yoeman service which cannot be underestimated.

We are proud to say the least that such rare find has been shared with us. I had heard about the Maharajas in the princely states of Limbdi and Jamnagar and some of the prominent ismailis living in those times working for the maharajas; as my mother used to relate. But this is actually proved with photographs to make it so poignant . This makes me say I wish I was there at the time.

My mother was from Kathiawar Limbdi; but we never had a chance even to visit this place . Her narration has suddenly come alive for me. It has also given us an insight into how people used to dress and look in those times with pagdi and feta; as well as their closeness to the Imam of the time.
Most of the jamat not was not urbanized; yet devout in their belief and worked very sincerely for the Imam.

We thank the Kotharis and all who have been instrumental in preserving these photos so well at the time when photography was not so advanced. Our humble shukranas for all their efforts.
