Nurin Merchant: "The Nature of Prayer" and "Show Jumping"

Artist: Nurin Merchant
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Profile: I am a student with a passion for art. At a young age, I took a keen interest in paper crafts, playdough, and finger painting. Today, that interest has evolved into more complex methods, my favourites being: working with clay and painting in watercolour, oil, as well as acrylic. Nature is one of my biggest inspirations, and it is present in nearly all of my pieces.

 The Nature of Prayer

The Nature of Prayer is a 14″ x 10″ mixed media acrylic painting on canvas. Secured on the canvas with strong glue are a handmade Tasbih (prayer beads), and 3 dried leaves bearing the Arabic inscriptions of Allah, Ali, and Muhammad. The whole piece represents prayer through the invocation of these names. This work was my contribution for Colours of Love, an art and culture initiative by the Ismaili Council for Canada during the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of His Highness the Aga Khan.

Show Jumping

This piece is an abstract painting of a horse and rider competing in a show jumping event. Oil was my medium, and it is approximately 16″ x 8″.

Keep up your passion with Nature. When an individual consciousness and a divine intelligence are in union, it orchestras in the nature, where the creativity is in abundance.
