  2. A personal tribute to honour Rai Saheb’s memory and legacy.

    Rai Saheb Pyarali Gulamali Nanji was a remarkable gentleman — a statesman-like figure whose journey from humble beginnings in Masaka and later Montréal was marked by vision, generosity, and compassion. He believed deeply in the principle that wealth is a trust, not for personal gain alone, but to be shared with those most in need. And he lived that belief every single day.

    When Canada opened its doors to thousands of Ugandan Asians who had been rendered stateless by Idi Amin’s decree, he  never forgot that generosity. He embodied the conviction that we, too, must give back in meaningful ways — not through token gestures, but with genuine service to the society that welcomed us. His contributions to health care, education and cultural institutions such as the Aga Khan Museum and Aga Khan Foundation stand as a testament to this philosophy.

    He walked the talk, guided by the timeless principles of our faith, and in doing so, he left behind a legacy of giving that will continue to touch lives far beyond those who knew him personally. Countless individuals, often nameless and unseen, became beneficiaries of his compassion and vision. That legacy is his enduring light.

  3. Just Wow! ‘Nuff said! Some personal reflections from back in the day relating to my family’s experiences with the illustrious Pyarali Nanji and his family:

    My wife fractured her wrist while ice skating back in the day and received top notch care at North York General Hospital’s Gulshan and Pyarali Nanji Orthopedic and Diagnostic Centers;

    On a trip to the beautiful sunbaked island and beaches of Aruba, Netherlands Antilles in 1993, we bumped into his daughter Nimi Nanji, whose daughter Iman attended and was a classmate of my 9-year old son Alykhan Velshi at Toronto’s International  IB (International Baccalaureate) School in midtown Toronto, the Toronto French School; out of the blue Nimi Nanji generously offered to teach my son to snorkel at Aruba’s fabled and magnificent Baby Beach; when it comes to generosity within the Nanji family, the apple does not fall far from the tree;

    May Almighty Allah bestow Eternal Peace upon the departed soul of Mr Pyarali Nanji and strength and blessings to his wife Gulshan, his daughter Nimi and entire family, both nuclear and extended.🙏🙏
