  1. It is very sad to hear that Dr. Aziz Kurwa has passed away. He was a great doctor, a great leader and a great sewa-dhari momin of Mawlana Hazar Imam. May Mawla give him a place in heaven – Ameen.

  2. Ya Ali Madad Malik,

What a well written and great obituary.

Inna lillahi wa inna illayhi raji’un

We are so saddened by the loss of such a wonderful friend and brother. On behalf of my husband Mansur and our family, we convey our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the jamat for the loss of such a great man. He had an amazing and magnetic persona. The passion, enthusiasm and energy he excuberated was so infectious that everyone he worked with was energised and that was one of the secrets of his success. The other was the staunch support of his late lovely dear wife Shirin. Always supporting, always besides him. They had a wonderful, loving and caring partnership. He was a true example of a gentleman. Kind, respectful, humble and considerate.

I was honoured to have known and worked with him as his co producer for the poetry festival during the Golden Jubilee which was very successful due to his meticulous eye for detail and his initiative to involve the whole European jamat under the UK jurisdiction. He had an abundant treasure of knowledge which he wanted to share with everyone from the juniors to the seniors and I speak from personal experience as he used to always come up with educational ideas for field trips when I was Baitul ilm administrator and a seniors chair. He was my role model and mentor and considered me his little sister. He was the life and soul of our parties and lived his life to the full. He will be very much missed.

We convey Mubaraki to late Aitmadi Dr Aziz Kurwa and late Aitmadibanoo Shirin Kurwa for their service and achievements during their rich and fullfilling journey in this world. May their souls reap the rewards of all their seva in the spiritual realm and rest in eternal peace. Ameen.

Mubaraki also to their children and grandchildren to have been privileged to be raised under such an incredible umbrella graced with such blessed parents. Shukhar.

May Allah grant you all with strength, courage and fortitude during this difficult time. Ameen.

    Warm regards and prayers.

    Shamim Ladhu.

  3. Last Wednesday in Calgary, I was in the operating chair recovering from microscopic cancer surgery—performed by Dr Habib Kurwa—when he got the very sad news about his father.

In the brief time that I interacted with “Dr Habib”, I was extremely impressed by his professionalism, personal manner, and energy. I sense that, in his father, Dr Habib had an outstanding role model to follow.

Sincere condolences to the entire family and many friends of Dr Aziz Kurwa.

  4. Heartfelt condolences for Aitmadi Saheb’s sad demise.
Mowla rest his soul in eternal peace. Ameen
Mowla bless solace to the family to bear this big loss. Ameen
It is a big loss to the community too. Shukhar Mowla

  5. I remember Dr Kurwa so well. It was a privilege working with him on the Ismaili Association. A great leader, good listener and allowed everyone to bring in their ideas and help towards implementation. Worked alongside him and Alwaez and Alwaeza Merchant and Varasiani Amina Ishani. Truly inspirational people and pray that they are always remembered for their contributions and that their souls rest in peace.

  6. Our deepest condolences on the demise of our valued friend, president Aziz Kurwa. With our prayers for the benefit of his soul.

  7. À humble and soft, kind man. It was my pleasure to have known him and his family in London, UK, and he was especially honoured and well appreciated by Seniors in the London Seniors Club he created where my mother went.

Who knew we’d meet over a decade later in Calgary. I’m glad we met in Jamatkhana just over a week ago where he shared the same smile. Shukhar.

    Hanif Ramzan and family

  8. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May Mawla grant this noble soul graceful entry into its eternal abode.

Aitmadi Dr. Aziz Kurwa will be remembered for his wisdom, open-heartedness and humility. He was a leader who had foresight and a determination to get things done. He remained passionate about the work of the Institute of Ismaili Studies long after he had stepped down as Governor. I recall our discussion about the IIS over dinner early in my time as the Institute’s Co-Director. Aziz Kurwa was a model of humanity and kindness – qualities that are often left behind in the tussle of life.

  9. INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAYHI RAJIOON. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace. Ameen.

Although I did not know late Dr. Kurwa personally I have read a lot about him and now kow even more from the interesting and educational Blog and also from the comments posted on the blog. Certainly a person with life-long amazing achievements. Alhamdulillah.

Best wishes, warm regards and prayers for all.

  10. I was Aitmadi Dr Kurwa’s secretary in late 80’s for the Ismailia Association for UK, now ITREB, together with your parents. We presented ginan mushaira and a play about Hassan Ibn Sabbah at the Commonwealth Institute on High Street Kensington besides other programs. He also was instrumental in combining meetings with the presidents of France and Portugal Ismailia Associations to reinforce like programs on religious teaching.I remember very much the gift of Fatimid coins that he presented to Hazar Imam. He had immense energy and his record of serving the Imam and the jamat is unmatched. He started so many ventures in UK that have now flowered that only Malik you have mentioned in your article can bring to light for the jamat. A well written obituary to a great soul. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

First heard of this great servant of the Imams from Alnoor Merchant, your brother, when I was visiting London in the early 2000s.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Ameen.
