According to Wikipedia, “Port Moody is a city in British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It envelops the east end of Burrard Inlet and is the smallest of the Tri-Cities, bordered by Coquitlam on the east and south and by Burnaby on the west.”
A new Ismaili Cultural Centre housing a Jamatkhana is being proposed in the city to replace the one further to the west that had to close down due to structural problems. Veteran journalist Mario Bartel presents a report dated January 18, 2023 in TRICITY News about the proposed cultural centre that would also include a 12-sorey residential rental tower. Please read Bartel’s report by clicking HERE or on image below.

Badruddin is correct.
The smaller towns in British Columbia are being ignored. The other towns and cities in the rest of Canada have multiple dignified Jamatkhana and centres.
British Columbia needs to be a priority.
This is great news for Canadian Ismailis. The Vancouver area needs to be a high priority for dignified Jamatkhanas in Canada.
Other regions like Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Montréal already have multiple projects.
Finally, we have a project for the Vancouver area.
I don’t quite understand Sadru’s concern. The Vancouver region has a number of Jamatkhanas that are quite dignified. I think there is one being planned to replace downtown’s Drake Jamatkhana along the lines of what is proposed for in this article in Port Moody. We have Burnaby Lake, North Vancouver (Headquarters), Richmond as well as the Darkhana at the Ismaili Centre. So the cities mentioned by Sadru do not necessarily have an edge over Vancouver. I would think that smaller towns need better Jamatkhanas than what they currently use.
