Simerg’s Third Anniversary and the Blog’s Popular Pieces (2/2)

A few days ago we listed twelve pieces that have been very popular with the readers since this blog was launched three years ago. We now present twelve more popular readings. In addition, we are also providing links to three completed series consisting of over one hundred articles. Each of the series is also available as an excellent PDF publication.

Readers may be interested in the following facts about this blog:

In 2009, Simerg averaged 300 views per day (year total, 119,000); in 2010 the daily average was 775 (280,000); in 2011, daily average was 994 (362,000); and for 2012, the daily average for the 4 month period, January-April, is running at 1,120 (135,500). Cumulative views from March 2009 – April 2012, 895,200. The highest one day view was 4,290, on October 8, 2010, when we published John Macdonald’s exclusive photos of His Highness the Aga Khan’s visit to Rideau Hall, the Governor General’s Residence, in Ottawa (Canada’s New Governor General, His Excellency David Johnston, Receives His Highness the Aga Khan). We need to substantially increase the readership numbers, and enhance Simerg’s presence and awareness on the world-wide web. We hope readers will help us in our goal by sharing the website with their family members, friends and other contacts in numerous ways including word of mouth, the social media and email forwards. Some of these features are now available at the bottom of each article.

Simerg’s Third Anniversary and the Blog’s Most Popular Pieces (Part 1 of 2)

To mark this blog’s third anniversary, we recently launched the series, “Thanking Ismaili Historical Figures,” with the publication of three letters by Andrew Kosorok (Makers of the Fatimid Blue Qur’an), Mohezin Tejani (Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan) and Aziz Kurwa (The Person of the Institution of Imamat). Several “Thank You Letters” will be published over the coming weeks and months, and cover numeous historical figures during the past 1400 years.

What did this blog begin with, and which are the pieces that have been viewed the most since our launch in the spring of 2009? We wish to present some twenty-four selections in two instalments from over 600 fine articles. Motivation does not necessarily come from anything that is lavish and extravagant. Lasting impressions and effects often come from small things, and in this regard there are two short and wonderful anecdotes that set the website rolling. “Thank You” to the Ismaili historical figures Muayyad din Shirazi and Nasir Khusraw for the momentum and inspiration they provided. Both the anecdotes are definitely worth a read, and should provide the readers with an appetite to read the remaining contents of this blog, as and when time permits. Please share this page and the website with your contacts around the world.

Compendium of Works of Art by Ismaili Artists

“Touched by the Essence” by Naznin-Virji Babul, Vancouver, Canada.

Simerg wishes to partner with Ismaili artists from around the world to feature a selection of their visual representations on this website. Artists are invited to submit two or three small to medium sized images of their works for a special compendium which will be published on this blog during summer of 2012, with regular updates thereafter. Artists are requested to include their short profiles, and provide links to their own websites or other on-line resources as well as galleries where their complete works are available for viewing.

“Nur i” by Rubina Rajan, Vancouver, Canada

Artists may be aware that Simerg has a special category for visual arts which features numerous Ismaili artists (Visual Arts: The Artists and their Works). However, this category is under-represented. We feel there is an incredible amount of talent within the Ismaili art community which needs to be recognized and appreciated; and a compendium, regularly updated, will be a definitive source for identifying and learning more about Ismaili visual artists. We are also confident that the compendium will help artists attain wider exposure, considering this website’s growing worldwide readership.

We look forward to hearing from all Ismaili artists around the world, professionals and non-professionals alike, for inclusion in this special compendium earmarked for summer 2012. Please submit your images with a brief profile to simerg@aol.com.

Thank you

Note: The publication of this compendium has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. We hope to publish it during Autumn 2013.
